Since 1 Jan 2026, under the Value Added Tax Act, 2025 (Act 1151), National Health Insurance Levy (NHIL) (2.5%), GETFund levy (2.5%) and VAT (15%) are all charged on the value of the supply: 20% in all. The 1% COVID-19 levy and the flat rate schemes were abolished when the Act took effect.
To take the taxes out of a price that includes them, divide it by 1.2: what is left is the price before tax.
A business that deals in goods must register for VAT once its turnover passes GH₵750,000 in twelve months.
