In the right format
A Ghanaian's card number. The format is right; only NIA can say whether the card was issued, since the check digit's formula is not published.
The National Identification Authority writes the Ghana Card number, the Personal ID Number, as GHA followed by ten digits: GHA-000000000-0. Foreign residents' cards carry their own three-letter country code in place of GHA.
The last character is a check digit, but its formula is not published, so this checks the format only. Only NIA can say whether a card was issued. Since 1 April 2021 the Ghana Card number has also been the individual's tax identification number.
